Fields: History of Science and Technology, Ancient & Medieval Eurasian History
Education: B.A. History, UMass Amherst
My name is Sean Klimmek, and I am a first-year Master's student in the History Department. I grew up reading anything I could lay my hands on but particularly enjoyed historical fiction. I would have happily remained reading in that genre had my brother not recommended Strategy, by B. H. Liddell Hart, to me. Recalling Liddell Hart’s account of the various campaigns of Belisarius still brings a smile to my face. Despite my interest in history and intent to pursue history at university, life had other plans for me, and I ended up working in a variety of fields (medical, corporate IT, even locksmithing) for many years. But my heart always wanted to return to history and with the help and support of my family, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I graduated in 2019 with my Bachelor’s in History. I loved every history class I took at UMass Amherst, and when it was suggested I consider the Masters program here I jumped at the chance. I am currently fascinated by the European obsession with heavy armor that spanned at least two millennia and the political and economic repercussions their love affair had.
