Professor Kevin Young just published the article “Will Climate Change Make Family Separations the Norm?” on Truthout. He writes, “Many have noted that the recent U.S. policy of separating families at the Mexico border continues a centuries-old tradition of forcibly separating indigenous, black, and other nonwhite families. Yet much less discussed is the intensification of family separation that will likely result from capitalist-induced climate chaos in the years ahead. Many millions of people are already displaced each year due to climate disasters, with family separation often accompanying displacement. The number is expected to rise dramatically with the increase in droughts, famines, floods, heat waves, and wildfires.”
