Congratulations to Professor Julio Capó Jr. who was just awarded the prestigious Audre Lorde prize for outstanding article in LGBTQ history published over the last two years. He received the award for his article published in Radical History Review, “Sexual Connections: Queers and Competing Tourist Markets in Miami and the Caribbean, 1920–1940.” The article explores how competing tourist markets in Miami and the Caribbean, primarily in Cuba, helped gender and sexual nonconformists carve out spaces in Greater Miami in the 1920s and 1930s.
