The UMass Department of History is proud to announce that Professor Julio Capó, Jr. has received 5 prestigious honors for his book, Welcome to Fairyland: Queer Miami before 1940 (University of North Carolina Press, 2017, which was released November 2017:

  • Winner of 2018 Rembert Patrick Award of the Florida Historical Society
  • Winner of 2018 Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Award of the Florida Historical Society
  • Winner of 2018 Stetson Kennedy Award of the Florida Historical Society
  • Winner of 2017 Florida Book Award (Bronze), Florida Nonfiction
  • Finalist for Lambda Literary Award in LGBTQ Studies

The first three are from the Florida Historical Society, which announced, "Three independent panels of accomplished reviewers selected this book for recognition among very competitive groups of submissions in each category. This is the first time in two decades that one book has been singled out for three separate awards from the Florida Historical Society."
