Graduate Students
Graduate students in the Department of History conduct research in a range of fields, including transatlantic and global history, gender and labor studies, public history and American history. Our students participate in a wide variety of events that showcased their skills as historians. Master’s degree and doctoral students present their research at conferences across the United States and abroad and organize the annual Graduate History Association conference on campus.
Many MA and PhD students in history simultaneously pursue a Graduate Certificate in Public History, which is offered through the Department of History and available to graduate students in any UMass department. To learn more about our current public history students, click here.
Graduate students often serve as teaching assistants in History Department classes. Students are invited to visit them during their office hours.
