Rebecca Cole
Ph.D. Student, Public History Student
BACKGROUND
Rebecca Cole is a PhD student studying postwar German history. She graduated summa cum laude in 2024 from Sewanee: The University of the South with her B.A. in History and German and German Studies. She earned honors and awards in both departments as well as the prestigious Dean's Scholar award. Rebecca conducted biographical research for the Stolpersteine Project in Berlin and independent research abroad as a Ledford Scholar. She was also a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Young Ambassador and is an advocate for researching and learning abroad. In her doctoral work at UMass, she plans to continue studying Holocaust memory in divided Germany. In her spare time, Rebecca also works for the Institute for Holocaust, Genocide, and Memory Studies.
