This list provides a starting point for faculty, students, and professionals interested in learning about the field of public history and employment opportunities in historical organizations, museums, archives, or libraries.

Current and prospective public history students are also encouraged to make ample use of the Department of History graduate program resources. There, you will find information about graduate study at UMass, career resources for historians, writing resourcesforms and documents, and additional online resources, including information about listservs for historians, digital archival resources, cartographic resources, and more.

The Public History Program also has access to professional development resources through its membership in the American Association for State and Local History and patronage of the National Council of Public History and International Federation for Public History

UMass public history regularly partners with other units around campus whose missions and aims align with ours. These include the Institute for Holocaust, Genocide and Memory Studies, directed by history faculty member Alon Confino; UMass Special Collections and Archives, directed by historian Rob Cox; the UMass Museum of Contemporary Art; and the Department of Architecture and its offerings in Historic Preservation (led by historians Max Page and Eldra-Domninique Walker); and the UMass Alliance for Community Transformation

UMass as a campus embraces a number of public facing social justice initiatives. Other programs of interest to public historians at UMass include those advancing work in Sustainability; the Resistance Studies Initiative; and the Public Engagement Project.
