Joanna’s work centers on memory and memorialization of colonial and early America in the 20th-century U.S. She’s particularly interested in the development and influence of heritage societies and local preservation organizations on politics and urban planning. With a background in museums and public humanities, Joanna is looking forward to completing the Public History Certificate alongside her research.

Joanna’s previous research focused on Brooklyn, New York’s mid-20th century Mohawk community. While her work is going in a new direction, Native American and Indigenous Studies remains an important field in her education.
