Support & Services

The College of Humanities and Fine Arts is only as excellent as the people who keep our classes engaging, our students goal-oriented, our offices running smoothly, and our research and creative activity on the forefront. Our work depends on a team of dedicated staff and experienced faculty, many of whom are internationally recognized in their fields.

We work to inspire our students and drive them toward success. In turn, they inspire us with their ability to explore established schools of thought and form new ideas. These students move on to a myriad of careers, shaping new realities in the world around them by applying the passion and skills they garner at UMass Amherst.

Advising & Career Center

The College of Humanities and Fine Arts Advising and Career Center provides comprehensive academic support, internship assistance and career counseling. Our dedicated and trained advisors can help with degree planning, scheduling courses, General Education requirements, internship placement, and more.

Scholarships

A number of scholarships are available to currently enrolled undergraduate students who have declared a major in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts.  Generally, the awards fall into two categories: those specifically designated to help students who will be studying abroad, and those seeking financial support for their academic pursuits on campus.

Internship Assistance Fund

Internships and the experience, connections, and skills they develop are vital components of effective career preparation.  When a substantive internship offers adequate pay, it is easier for students to take advantage of the opportunity.  When an internship doesn't offer financial support, we are pleased that the generosity of HFA alumni who recognize the importance of internships makes it possible for us to contribute monetarily to students whose primary major is in the college.

Student Spotlight

Brian Turner

With a double major in architecture and political science (and a minor in art history), Brian Turner '18 explains how two seemingly different areas of academics actually intertwine in more ways than you’d think. He discusses traveling to many American cities in his childhood and the sense of community he feels in his hometown, Memphis, Tenn., both of which contribute to his love of architecture.
