Research Grants

Application due date

12:00 noon on the first Friday in October and in March (October 5, 2018 and March 1, 2019)

Maximum amount: $3,000

Amounts up to $3,000 may be requested for materials and expenses related to a research project or a creative activity to be undertaken by an HFA faculty member and for which other funding resources are not available. Research Grants cannot be used as compensation for faculty time and must be clearly connected to the advancement of a specific project.

Funds awarded in the fall round become available in January and, generally, must be fully expended within one month of the activity's conclusion, but no later than the end of that calendar year, i.e. December 31st. Similarly, those awarded in the spring become available in July and should be fully expended within one month following completion of the activity, but no later than the end of that fiscal year, i.e. June 15th.  Award letters will include information specific to each recipient's circumstances.

Eligibility

HFA's full-time faculty members at any rank may apply.  N.B. All things being equal, applications from faculty members who have never received Research Grants will be given priority.  Those who received Research Grant support in any of the four previous application rounds are ineligible.

To Apply

Complete the application form below.  Responses to two application items are limited to a maximum number of CHARACTERS (including spaces).  We recommend you prepare your narrative in advance using word-processing.  You can check the character count in Word for PC:  select the Review tab→click on Word Count→see Characters (with spaces) number. This feature should be available in other word-processing software, although it may have a difrerent location.  Copy and paste your responses into the application form.

You will be able to save partial applications and return later to complete and submit them.  Please be sure to follow the instructions and copy the link provided to be able to return to your application.  The budget document you are asked to provide should be uploaded only when you are ready to submit your completed application.  It will not be saved if you exit the form before clicking on the submit button.

Post-grant Report

Faculty members who receive Research Grants will submit a one-page report to the Associate Dean for Research summarizing progress made on the grant-supported activity and its impact on their research or creative project.  Neglecting to do so may place future requests for support at a disadvantage.
