Today, UMass Amherst hosted Ndaba Mandela—author, mentor, spokesperson, entrepreneur, political consultant, and the grandson of Nelson Mandela—at the first annual Day of Racial Healing Community Brunch. His talk covered ongoing racism both in the U.S. and in South Africa, the need for young people to embrace political power to spur change, and the importance of preserving his grandfather's legacy.
The event's welcome address and land acknowledgment were given by Alaina Macaulay, Senior Director for Inclusion and Strategic Engagement, with opening remarks were delivered by HFA's very own Joye Bowman, professor of history and senior associate dean.
