On March 15 at 12:30 p.m. EST, David Rodríguez-Solás, associate professor and graduate program director in Spanish ands Portuguese Studies, and Esther Fernández, associate professor at Rice University, will interview in Spanish Lluís Homar, director of the National Classical Theater Company in Spain, and the artistic team of the acclaimed online piece «En otro reino extraño» (In Another Strange Realm), a play about the ever-changing concept of love. In this interview actors and directors will talk about the challenges of rehearsing and preparing a play in times that require social distancing.
In the spring of 2020, theaters had to close for an extended period of time due to the pandemic and companies were forced to reconsider their activities to maintain afloat. In Spain, the Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico (CNTC, or National Classical Theater Company), was among the first to embrace this resilient artistic path. David Boceta directed a new production for the Joven Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico using video conferencing platforms. This roundtable explores with the artistic team a groundbreaking creative process in the history of the CNTC and in classical dramaturgy.
