In June 2016, College of Humanities & Fine Arts alumni have a special opportunity to join a one-of-a-kind food and culture tour of Rome, Naples, Cilento, and Sorrento with UMass Italian Professor Roberto Ludovico, in partnership with Gustolab International Institute for Food Studies and Discover Europe, Ltd.
Not your typical food tour of Italy, this trip offers alumni the opportunity to enjoy Italy's famous cuisine while learning about its origins and its place in Italian culture.

Roberto Ludovico grew up in Puglia, Italy, and joined the UMass faculty after receiving his Ph.D. from Brown University in 2003. Six years ago, working with with the Leonardo da Vinci School in Rome and Gustolab, he established the Critical Studies on Food Summer Program in Italian Studies.
Every year, the program allows UMass students to learn and improve their Italian through a five-week full immersion language program, and to take courses on food studies, food and media, and culture and nutrition at Gustolab.
Dozens of UMass students have been able to attend the Critical Studies on Food in Italy Summer Program, in partnership with Gustolab, since 2010 and we are excited to now offer the same experience to alumni and friends who will be able to connect with current students while in Rome!

In conjunction with Gustolab, UMass Amherst students produced the following video surveying the perspectives of historians, anthropologists, journalists, and an olive oil maker on how the role of tourism in relation to food has transformed over time.
