Alumna and Art Instructor Deborah Bazer spent six weeks this semester teaching middle and high school students about the relationship between art and science through Eureka!'s "Buzz About the Bees" program. The 12-week science and art program focused on training a new generation of scientists and examining the relationship between art and science.
Led by Bazer and UMass Amherst Biology Professor Lynn Adler, the student scholars spent six weeks studying and conducting field research, including playing with bugs, and another six weeks learning about art mediums and methods to create their final pieces. Each student became an expert on a different bug and created art pieces to represent their findings.
Eureka! is a five year journey for teenage girls, preparing them to participate and excel in cutting-edge, dynamic STEM careers. The program celebrated its 10-year partnership with UMass Amherst in summer 2022.
