UMass Amherst Officially Renames Fine Arts Center Building, Performance Hall for Randolph W. Bromery and Frederick C. Tillis

The University of Massachusetts Amherst honored its deep roots in the performing and fine arts this week at a ceremony—hosted by College of Humanities and Fine Arts Dean Barbara Krauthamer—celebrating the renaming of the Fine Arts Center building and spaces within, as well as acknowledging the centrality and importance to UMass Amherst's legacy, present, and future.

Dean Krauthamer to Serve on Special Commission Tasked with Leading the Commonwealth’s Celebration of the 250th American Revolution

Barbara Krauthamer, dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts and professor of history at UMass Amherst, was recently appointed by Governor Charlie Baker to serve on the Massachusetts Special Commission to Investigate and Study the Promotion and Celebration of the Two Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the American Revolution. She was chosen for the appointment after being nominated by the University of Massachusetts President’s Office.

Martín Espada to Offer the Fall Commonwealth Honors College Plenary Lecture

Martín Espada, professor in the UMass Amherst department of English and celebrated poet of social justice, will offer the fall 2021 plenary lecture for the Commonwealth Honors College on Friday, Oct. 15, at 5 p.m. in the Campus Center Auditorium. He will read from various works, including his new poetry collection Floaters, and engage in a discussion of poetry as a form of persuasion that stirs the emotions, awakens the senses and acts as a force to convey ideas that change the world.

UMass Music & Dance Presents Guest Pianist Steven Beck In Concert

On Wednesday, October 20, the University of Massachusetts Amherst Department of Music and Dance will host a free guest artist concert by pianist Steven Beck at 7:30 p.m. in Bezanson Recital Hall. Beck will perform the complete solo piano sonatas by George Walker (1922-2018), the first African American to win the Pulitzer Prize in Music.
