The UMass Amherst Alumni Association recently announced the winners of the 2021 Senior Leadership and Field Scholar Awards. In total, four students from the College of Humanities and Fine Arts were recognized with alumni award.

Seven University of Massachusetts Amherst undergraduates, graduate students and an alumna have received Fulbright U.S. Student Program grants to travel abroad as English teaching assistants or to perform research projects they designed. Among this group are three students and one alum with majors or certificates in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

Two ensembles and one solo musician from the jazz and African-American music studies program (JAAMS) at the UMass Amherst department of music and dance have been selected to receive Student Music Awards (SMAs) from DownBeat magazine, widely recognized as the top publication devoted to “Jazz, Blues, and Beyond.” DownBeat announces the Student Music Award winners each year in its June issue, which was published last week.

Joye Bowman, associate dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts and professor of history, is the 2021 faculty recipient of the Graduate School's Commitment to Diversity Award. The Commitment to Diversity Award annually recognizes one student and one faculty member for their outstanding contributions to diversity and inclusion within the UMass Amherst graduate student body.

Anne Broadbridge Among Five Honored with Manning Teaching Awards

Anne F. Broadbridge, professor in the Department of History and director of the Middle Eastern Studies program, is one of five University of Massachusetts faculty awarded the 2020 Manning Prize for Excellence in Teaching for their exemplary dedication to students and the university. The faculty members—one from each UMass campus—will receive $10,000 awards in recognition of their commitment to academic excellence.
