Fumi Tomita Releases New CD, Book

It’s been a busy month for Fumi Tomita, assistant professor of jazz and string bass in the department of music and dance. Tomita’s newest CD, “The Elephant Vanishes: Jazz Interpretations of the Short Stories of Haruki Murakami,” has just been released on OA2 Records. Murakami is known as the author of “IQ84,” a massive three-volume work of dystopian fantasy.

Steven Tracy to Deliver Keynote Address at Poetry Forum in China

Distinguished Professor of Afro-American studies, Steven C. Tracy, will provide a keynote address for a poetry forum in Wuhan, China on May 30 as part of his work as a Distinguished Overseas Professor at the Central China Normal University. Tracy’s talk, “The Genesis and Nature of ‘Tremble’: Anatomy of a Blues Performance,” will involve a recording of the song “Tremble” by his band, Steve Tracy and the Crawling Kingsnakes, as well as live singing and harmonica playing.
