
Martín Espada Awarded 2018 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize

The Poetry Foundation announced the winner of the 2018 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, which honors a living US poet for outstanding lifetime achievement. Martín Espada, professor in the Department of English, is awarded the prize in recognition of his contribution to poetry.

Philosophy in Public Schools program introduces public school students to philosophy studies

On Wednesday, May 2 in South College, Philosophy Professor Louise Antony stood in front of more than 50 second graders from Springfield ready to introduce philosophical thought in the form of Dr. Seuss’s literature. UMass Amherst Philosophy Professor Ned Markosian, and Mount Holyoke Philosophy Emeritus Professor, Thomas Wartenberg, stood nearby as the children settled into their seats.

UMass Amherst Department of English to Re-launch Prestigious Peter Elbow Symposium

The Department of English has announced the re-launch of the Peter Elbow Symposium for the Study and Teaching of Writing. The 2018 Elbow Symposium will take place on the UMass Amherst campus this summer from June 18-21.
