The Tenth Muse: Resonances of Sappho in Greek and Latin Poetry

Five speakers will reflect on how Sappho’s voice—her style, language, and tone of her lyrics, as well as their distinctive thematics and affect—manifest in works by later poets. Of particular interest is the influence of Sappho’s lyrics and the charismatic construction of her literary persona in Greco-Roman antiquity, particularly in the Hellenistic and Roman periods.
