Prior to working at CNN, Vega was a staff reporter for The New York Times where she created and covered a beat on race and ethnicity for the national desk, reported on digital media and advertising for the business desk, and covered the New York City courts for the metro section. Vega writes a column titled "Where are you really from?" and is in the process of writing a book titled UPPITY: Women, Race, and Class in America (2018).
