Judaic and Near Eastern Studies

The Department of Judaic & Near Eastern Studies offers a comprehensive liberal arts education rooted in the fascinating history and culture of the Middle East and the Jewish and Islamic traditions. Two programs – one in Judaic studies and the other in Middle Eastern Studies – function side by side, independently and in tandem with each other. Courses focus on history, culture, politics, literature, and film, ranging from ancient times to the present day.

Judaic & Near Eastern studies provides students with an excellent liberal arts education for careers in academia, education, community work, and the arts. The faculty is committed to a shared and inclusive atmosphere of intellectual curiosity and cultural understanding. Both programs emphasize critical analysis, thorough research, effective argumentation, and incisive writing skills – essential skills for a wide range of professions.
