Students acquire a broad and global education in film studies through this interdepartmental program. They learn from energetic and enthusiastic professors from 15 different departments while gaining exposure to a vast array of approaches, angles, and experiences in diverse topics, such as film theory, film criticism, the history of cinema, screenwriting, cinematography, and more. Students may take advantage of film offerings through the Five Colleges and sponsored study abroad programs, and they engage with leaders in the world of cinema through the Filmmakers of the 21st Century visiting professors series.

Undergraduates may pursue a major in film studies through our bachelor’s degree with individual concentration (BDIC) program, while graduate students may complete a graduate certificate in film studies to complement another graduate degree. Our graduates go on to distinguish themselves as scholars, artists, and professionals in the demanding and competitive areas of film and video.
