The Department of Classics celebrates the rich civilizations of ancient Rome and Greece, allowing students to engage with essential works of antiquity. The department prides itself on producing rigorous and enthusiastic scholars and Latin teachers who will go on to introduce the ancient western world to new generations of students.

The department is built around a core of comprehensive research and intellectual curiosity. The classics major offers three concentrations for students to choose from: Greek & Latin Languages, Classical Civilization, and Classical Archeology. The nationally regarded graduate program offers a Master of Arts in Teaching Latin and Classical Humanities.
