April 1 - 12, 2024
Reception: April 11, 4 -6 PM
Herter Art Gallery is pleased to present Withdrawn, a thesis exhibition by Dan Willig, in the Department of Art at the University of Massachusetts.
Dan Willig’s thesis exhibition, Withdrawn explores temporal rifts between bodies and place. The exhibition invites viewers to contemplate their own relationship with the complex nature of contemporary existence.
From Willig's artist statement:
"My art practice aims to understand the complex nature of contemporary existence and its effects on the psyche. Rooted in representation, I work in relief sculpture, drawing, and animation to express lived experiences in relationship social environments. In my work, emotions such as melancholia, estrangement, and loneliness arise as I investigate the ontology of being human."
Dan Willig is an MFA candidate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He received his BFA from Lyme Academy College of Fine Art and is originally from Long Island, New York.
This event was made possible with generous support from the UMass Fine Arts Council.
