A Space In-Between explores a balance between two radically different cultures through multidisciplinary works of art. Through my work in sculpture, photography and video, I investigate the experience of immigration as an Iranian body in a Western diasporic context. As I find myself transitioning between Iranian and American, I try to comprehend my own place in this diasporic space regarding class, gender, and ethnicity. The perpetual questioning of identity and home creates an estrangement in which nostalgia is inevitably the result. Accepting the complexity of identity is something that I hope will resonate in a larger cultural discourse of immigration and diaspora.
