ground things on a moving earth explores the relationship between landscape and memory. While some of the works in this exhibition contemplate peculiar aspects of the local western New England surrounding, others explore the unsettling phenomena of inverted worlds reflected upon puddles of water. These transient ‘screens’ of water also appear bizarre and otherworldly. Cloaked in mystery the identity of the image reflected remains outside an immediate frame of reference leaving viewers disoriented - an uncanny ‘doubling’ purposefully employed by the artist to exaggerate a sense of dislocation, disembodiment, and displacement.

About the Artist

Shona Macdonald was a 2009 recipient of a grant from the Pollock Krasner Foundation. She has been artist-in-residence at Ballinglen, Ireland, Can Serat, Spain, the Roswell Foundation, Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Ragdale, and Ox-Bow. Her work has been shown in solo exhibitions in New Zealand, Germany, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Sacramento, Cleveland, Las Vegas and Washington DC. Reviews of her work have appeared in Art in America, Art News, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times, Sacramento Bee, Boston Globe and New American Paintings.
