Herter Art Gallery is delighted to present Artifacts, a solo exhibition by public artist Gary Orlinsky. Drawing on Orlinsky’s reclaimed artifacts and natural materials, the exhibition explores the fragile balance between nature, civilization, and the systems we build to understand it.

Gary Orlinsky
Leverett, Massachusetts

Gary Orlinsky has been a public artist for over three decades. He has completed site-specific installations and exhibited his work nationally and internationally, in parks, gardens, and arboretums, museums, galleries and college campuses, from Brooklyn, to Cambridge, Princeton, Amherst and Lenox, to Evanston Illinois, Washington, D.C., and Coriano, Italy as well as many other sites and institutions. He has frequently been an artist in residence, in places ranging from I-Park in Connecticut, to the Chautauqua Institute in New York, to the Conway Grammer School. This summer he has been commissioned to install a new work for “Under Construction: America at 250” at the Duxbury Museum. Gary teaches at Assumption University in Worcester and in the Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts. He lives and works in Leverett and is thrilled to return to Herter Gallery, the site of his MFA show.
