CCHER summer enrichment program amplifies youth voices as they explore health inequities

The UMass Provost's Office has selected Airín D. Martínez as the 2023 recipient of the Distinguished Community-Engaged Research Award.

CCHER is pleased to announce the return of two of its summer programs: the Public Health Equity Young Scholars Summer Enrichment Program, a public health careers exploration program for rising 7th-10th graders from historically underrepresented backgrounds, and the Summer Public Health Equity Research Experience program (SPHERE), which provides undergraduate students from historically underrepresented backgrounds hands-on mentored experience with individual faculty mentors.

Kathryn Derose, professor of community health education in the Department of Health Promotion and Policy, has been featured as a UMass Amherst Spotlight Scholar for May 2024.

Associate Professor and Chair of Health Promotion and Policy Sarah Goff has been awarded a five-year, $2.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to examine the impact of Medicaid accountable care organizations (ACOs) on the quality and outcomes of behavioral/mental health care for children in Massachusetts.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s (DPH) Office of Sexual Health and Youth Development in the Bureau of Community Health and Prevention has awarded a renewable contract to Health Promotion and Policy faculty members Aline Gubrium and Elizabeth Salerno Valdez to examine adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH) inequities in Massachusetts.
