The importance of including scientists in public discourse and policy making has become increasingly apparent. Science advocates who educate the public and policy makers encourage and facilitate science-based decision making in health, environmental, industrial, and other STEM fields. Join a panel discussion with Ezra Markowitz (UMass Amherst; Public Engagement Project), Destenie Nock (Carnegie Mellon University), Daniel Pomeroy (Scientific Citizenship Initiative), and Laurel Smith-Doerr (UMass Amherst; Public Engagement Project) to learn what you can do on and off the UMass campus to build your science advocacy toolbox through writing. After the panel, stay for the optional roundtable discussion (11:30am-12:00pm).
