Our New Assistant Dean of Inclusion and Engagement

Olufunmilayo (Funmi) Adebayo is the new Assistant Dean for Inclusion and Engagement at the Graduate School. Joining us from New York City, her passion is to increase diversity in higher education in both STEM and non-STEM fields. Funmi received her BS from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Biomedical Engineering and Professional Writing, and her Master's and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Cornell University.

At Cornell University, she served as the graduate coordinator for the Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP), and a Graduate Resident Fellow at Cornell's Carl Becker House. She has conducted pedagogical research aimed at exploring the persistence and success of traditionally underrepresented populations in higher education. Funmi has received awards and funding from the National Science Foundation, the Sloan Foundation and the Orthopaedic Research Society, and was awarded the Cornell University Zellman Warhaft Commitment to Diversity Award in 2014.

She is excited to join the team at the Graduate School at UMass Amherst, with the goal of mentoring and empowering students to successfully pursue graduate degrees.
