Increasingly, fulfilling our mission requires merging knowledge, ideas, approaches, and technologies across a wide and diverse range of sectors. In response to these challenges, from 2020–2025, GMS achieved an historic level of growth and success.
Our Five-year Roadmap: 2025-2030
GMS worked with university stakeholders and regional partners to develop a new five-year roadmap, For a Resilient Future: 2025–2030, which is advancing coordinated ecological, economic, and community resilience through three objectives.
Leveraging our interdisciplinary team of exceptional researchers to drive innovative solutions
Expanding opportunities to engage our established and growing network of partners, build community-engaged participatory research programs, and inform resilience approaches
Using our unique waterfront location to offer immersive, experiential training and workforce development to the next generation of interdisciplinary scientists, local communities, and partners

As well as regular transportation between Amherst and Gloucester
Piloting course offerings, co-teaching models, and field trips, to connect more UMass faculty with our regional networks, resulting in co-created solutions, through new research and development projects developed with state and industry partners, in direct response to stakeholder-identified needs
From internships to courses to a “semester by the sea”, student opportunities will be shaped to offer real-world experience solving local and global challenges
