To begin, access the Portal, choose a tool from the main menu on the left and select your marsh area of interest on the map by either selecting a single marsh unit one at a time, or using one of our multi-select tool options:
- Report Generator Tools generate comprehensive assessments and downloadable reports of marsh health trends including vegetation or inundation trends through various indices, pool dynamics, and ditch conditions. These reports can highlight problem areas of your marshes or give a quick check-up on implemented restoration projects.
- Viewer Tools allow you to interactively explore datasets generated by MassMarsh team members, such as our Massachusetts-wide pool and ditch shapefiles. You can also inspect or create your own rasters, displaying time series information to estimate increasing or decreasing inundation trends or hydrologic feature expansion and contraction rates.
- External Products Tools menu offers additional resources and downloadable data layers from external agencies, such as historical aerial imagery (1952–present), LiDAR elevation profiles, and vegetation fraction maps via UVVR. These data are viewable in their original format, and we have also incorporated tools to help explore these datasets in new, helpful ways.
