Dive certification 2025 class

AAUS Scientific Dive Certification

GMS offers student researchers underwater dive safety skills including underwater data collection proficiency, oxygen first aid, CPR, AED training, and swimming rescue. This certification increases the rigor of our research program and helps students be more competitive post-graduation, tackling ocean and coastal conservation and management challenges in New England and abroad. To date, 18 students across the UMass system (nine from Amherst) have completed 238 dives.

The American Academy of Underwater Scientists (AAUS) dive certification is the recognized gold standard in scientific dive training.
