Katie Kahl

Katie is the Director at the Gloucester Marine Station and the Extension Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Conservation.  As an Extension faculty member based full time at the Gloucester Marine Station, she develops integrated research and engagement programs, including MassMarsh, the Northeast Massachusetts Climatetech Consortium, and the Mass ECAN multi-state Salt Marsh Work Group. She is a member of the Executive Committee for the Northeast Center for Coastal Resilience—a unique collaboration across UMass campuses and partner organizations. As the director at GMS, Katie leads strategic planning and development of new programs, partnerships, and financing strategies. Locally, Katie has served on the board of directors for the Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce and  the City of Gloucester’s Harbor Planning Committee. Prior to joining UMass, she worked in the Great Lakes region on conservation policy, green infrastructure planning and implementation, and land conservation, grounding her role at UMass.
