Oceans make up the vast majority of our planet's surface.
The Gloucester Marine Station is in New England, where coastal communities make up 65 percent of the region's population and economy.
Gloucester is the birthplace of commercial fishing in the U.S., and the Gloucester Marine Station provides a connection between scientific research at UMass Amherst—the #1 public university in New England—and the North Shore of Massachusetts, the Gulf of Maine, and the marine environment across the globe.
At Gloucester Marine Station, we collaborate on science-based solutions to issues facing coastal communities. We're doing the work to begin answering important questions about sustainability and resilience so these communities can continue to be vital cultural centers into the future.
Mission:
