Sesión satélite preparatoria de la conferencia científica organizada por la Sociedad Global de Migración, Etnicidad, Raza y Salud del 2 al 5 de septiembre de 2025 en Lisboa, Portugal. La discusión se dividirá en tres partes. En una primera parte (20 minutos), los panelistas hablarán sobre las relaciones que se crean entre financiadores e investigadores de América Latina, y las alianzas implícitas que orientan los estudios de migración y salud en la región. En una segunda parte (20 minutos), los panelistas debatirán sobre las revistas y editoriales que publican estudios en migración y salud que se realizan en América Latina. En la tercera parte, los panelistas (20 minutos) hablarán sobre la relación entre los resultados de los estudios y la formulación de políticas en migración y salud. Después de cada parte habrá 10 minutos para preguntas.

The UMass Amherst Institute for Global Health (IGH) welcomes Jen Kasper and Joel Sawady of Doctors for Global Health and Harvard Medical School to the IGH Global Health Seminar Series. Drs. Kasper and Sawady will deliver a talk titled "Doctors for Global Health in El Salvador: 28 Years of Accompaniment and How You Can Be Involved" on April 2, 2024, from 1-2 pm via Zoom.
Drs. Kasper and Sawady are primary care physicians with decades of experience working hand-in-hand with poor, rural communities in Latin America to improve their health and well-being. As medical school faculty in the U.S., they bring in students and health professionals to learn about and participate in this work.
Doctors for Global Health (DGH) works to bring community-oriented primary care to communities around the world. DGH uses an "accompaniment" model, built on community empowerment and long-term partnership. Drs. Kasper and Sawady will review the history of DGH's work in one community in El Salvador, and the lessons that can be drawn from that work. They will also discuss how students and faculty alike can join in the work of DGH.
Co-sponsored by the Center for Research on Families (CRF), the Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR), and the Center for International Education (CIE).
