Mission and Goals
The mission of the University of Massachusetts Institute for Global Health (IGH) is to protect and promote the health of people across the globe. The IGH will serve as a catalyst for raising awareness of global health problems among the UMass community and initiating large-scale multi-disciplinary programs of research and education to address global health challenges.
Challenges
Major challenges for global health, both now and in the future are the constantly changing geopolitics and climate change, resulting in increasingly severe weather events, depletion of food and natural resources, human migration, spread and changing distribution of infectious diseases (their virulence and antimicrobial resistance), chronic disease and conflict.
Vision
The vision for the Institute for Global Health is to create a space for student and faculty engagement in the global health discourse, and to support interdisciplinary approaches to global health challenges, through both education and research.
