Global Partnerships

The University of Massachusetts Amherst Office of Global Affairs has released an updated International Research Partnership Funding Opportunities resource, strengthening institutional support for globally engaged research and international collaboration across disciplines.

The updated resource, hosted on the Global Partnerships funding webpage, provides UMass Amherst faculty and research leaders with a centralized, searchable overview of external funding programs that support international research partnerships. Curated to support strategic planning and proposal development, the resource complements existing internal seed funding and researcher mobility initiatives offered in partnership with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research & Engagement.

A Strategic Resource for Research Development

The International Research Partnership Funding Opportunities list compiles funding programs from U.S. federal and private funders, international agencies, foundations, and multi‑country initiatives, with each entry identifying the funder, topical focus, geographic origin, and whether U.S.‑based researchers are eligible. The downloadable spreadsheet was most recently updated in March 2026, reflecting current and emerging opportunities relevant to globally engaged research agendas.

Designed to be used alongside institutional partnerships and memoranda of agreement (MOAs), the resource enables researchers to more effectively align collaboration goals with external funding pathways.

Advancing UMass Amherst’s Global Research Mission

While UMass Amherst faculty maintain a wide array of individual research relationships around the world, the university has also established more than 30 active international partnership agreements and identified a set of strategic partner institutions. These partnerships provide a structured framework for seed‑funding programs designed to catalyze collaboration, deepen institutional engagement, and position faculty teams for larger joint research projects and competitive external grants.

The updated funding resource reflects the Office of Global Affairs’ broader role in advancing UMass Amherst’s global engagement strategy by helping researchers align existing partnerships with targeted international funding opportunities, supporting MOU activation, long‑term collaboration, and the pursuit of sustained external funding.

Accessing the Resource

The International Research Partnership Funding Opportunities spreadsheet is available for download on the Global Partnerships funding page.

Faculty and administrators are encouraged to use the resource as part of proposal planning, partnership development, and research strategy conversations. Questions, updates, or suggested additions may be directed to the Office of Global Affairs.
