In October 2024, a UMass Amherst delegation visited Hokkaido University (HU), rekindling the historical connection between the institutions, which dates back to Dr. William Smith Clark. The visit, led by Associate Vice-Chancellor Laura Vandenberg, focused on strengthening existing collaborations across various faculties and centers. Discussions included potential partnerships, such as those between HU's Yoichi Orchard and UMA's Cold Spring Orchard. Delegates explored the legacy of Dr. Clark and his successor, Dr. William Penn Brooks. Both universities committed to enhancing research communications, exemplified by the HU-UMA Virtual Symposium on Polymer Science and Engineering in January 2024.
