Neurodiversity refers to the many different ways that people’s brains work. There is a wide spectrum of how neurodiversity can be categorized, and we want everyone to be able to find success, comfort, and receive any necessary accommodations while studying abroad. If you identify as neurodivergent, we encourage you to disclose as much as possible with your Education Abroad Advisor and on-site program staff so they can provide the necessary resources and support during your time abroad.

Here are some questions to consider:

  • What type of structure do you need to succeed?

    • Think about your coursework and how faculty can work to provide you with as much flexibility and clarity needed to complete assignments.

  • What routines do you have and how will you maintain them abroad?

    • You will be in a new environment and could face unpredictability. Consider what you need to include in your daily life to manage your comfort levels.

  • How will you navigate a new culture and environment?

    • Your host country might have social and cultural norms that are different from what you are used to. We encourage you to do research beforehand to help strategize how you will navigate new and potentially unfamiliar social settings and customs. Your education abroad advisor can also connect you with students who have previously studied in your host country.
