Andrea Campbell Drake

About Me
Andrea Campbell Drake serves as the Executive Director of Global Safety and Security. For over ten years, Andrea has developed systems to support students, staff, and faculty traveling abroad as well as comprehensive international travel safety policies and strategies for the UMass system. Andrea also serves as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator for incidents of sexual assault, harassment, and gender discrimination abroad.
Andrea earned a dual Bachelor of Arts degree from Northeastern University in International Affairs and Languages, Literature, and Cultures with a minor in Middle East Studies. Her undergraduate program included two full time co-ops working at Amnesty International and The Boston Globe as well as periods studying abroad in Paris and an intensive journalism program in Egypt, Syria, and Qatar. Her travel experience continued post-college with a summer volunteering in Haiti on the small island of Île-à-Vache, where she used her French language skills to teach English to local teachers. Andrea earned her Master's in Higher Education Administration from UMass Amherst in 2018. Her master’s thesis focused on strategies for improving campus climate for international students.
Andrea currently serves as the Chair of the Professional Development Committee for Pulse, International Safety and Security Professionals in Higher Education, as a member of the CEA CAPA Health and Safety Advisory Board, as a member of the Steering Committee for the Women in Security network, and as a member of the Student Risk Task Force for the Forum for Education Abroad. She previously served as the President of the Massachusetts Council for International Education, on the Board of Directors for Pulse, International Safety and Security Professionals in Higher Education, and as Coordinator for Health and Safety in the Education Abroad Knowledge Community and Chair of the Health and Safety Subcommittee for NAFSA.
Andrea has presented at dozens of conferences, in the U.S. and internationally, and is a contributing author to the book, Convergence of litigation, policy, and standards: Building the informed practitioner in education abroad risk management from The Forum on Education Abroad, J. Pollard & K. S. Priebe (Eds.) as well as the forthcoming NAFSA book, Crisis Management in International Education.
