Make an immediate impact through your annual gift.
Annual gifts play a vital role in the lives and endeavors of our students, faculty, and staff. By providing financial aid to students, funding scholarships and student organizations, supporting schools and colleges, and much more, annual gifts help to ensure the continued rise of UMass Amherst as a leading public institution in the country.
Whether you’re an alum, faculty or staff member, parent, or student, you can make an impact by supporting an area of campus that’s important to you.
UMass Amherst prides itself on providing a world-class education—an education that acts as a launching pad for students across disciplines.
So, when our alumni ask what they can do to show their appreciation, we suggest they give back to their favorite areas of campus to make sure the opportunities they received in their time here are there for generations to come.
For Faculty and Staff
The generosity of faculty and staff is another point of pride for UMass Amherst. Every year, roughly 2,000 faculty and staff give nearly $1 million. Current employees can have their gifts automatically deducted from their university paychecks by completing an online Payroll Deduction Form, or they can make a pledge to be paid off later by printing out the Pledge Form and sending it to our gift processing department. And, of course, gifts can always be sent in by check or made online.
UMass parents are some of our most dedicated contributors—seeing firsthand how much the university and our students benefit from annual gifts. In fact, UMass parents give more than $1 million annually, which is used to fund professorships for outstanding faculty, scholarships for students in need, lectures, and state-of-the-art spaces for learning and ground-breaking research. Parents can make a gift anytime or find other ways to help here.
It’s never too soon to start giving back. UMass students are welcome to join the Student Alumni Association’s Student Philanthropy Committee (SPC) to learn about the importance of philanthropy and to get involved with giving initiatives. The SPC helps by collaborating with campus organizations to promote philanthropic campaigns like UMassGives and GivingTuesday; planning and hosting thank-you events for donors; sharing the impact of UMass philanthropy on social media; and encouraging students to show their appreciation by making a gift—of any amount—to the university. The MinuteFund is UMass Amherst’s crowdfunding platform. Like GoFundMe, the MinuteFund provides students and faculty with the opportunity to fundraise for specific initiatives. Recently, the MinuteFund has raised over $1.1 million for 50+ diverse projects across campus, including the recording of a new Vocal Suspects album, the Women for UMass grant matching challenge, the Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge, and more.
UMassGives is a two-day online giving campaign where alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, and friends come together to support their favorite areas of campus. Hundreds of student groups, programs, departments, clubs, and centers participate by reaching out to their potential supporters using email, texts, and social media to encourage them to give to UMass Amherst. The Office of Annual Giving spearheads this effort, but the incredible success of the campaign is due in large part to the hundreds of grassroots efforts throughout campus.
