Gift Planning and Estate Gifts
Ensuring the strength of UMass Amherst for generations to come.

A planned gift is one of several strategies to provide a gift to UMass Amherst from your estate. It allows you to maintain ownership and control of all of your assets during your lifetime. All planned gifts provide a dollar-for-dollar charitable tax deduction for your estate. Some planned gifts provide a guaranteed lifetime income stream and an immediate income tax deduction.
Some of the most popular planned giving methods include:
- A bequest from your Last Will & Testament or Living Trust.
- A beneficiary-controlled distribution from an IRA, 401(k), or 403(b).
- A beneficiary designation on a life insurance policy.
- A Charitable Gift Annuity, which provides an income stream for life as well as an immediate charitable income tax deduction.
