Food Science Research Equipment

The Department of Food Science has a great deal of research equipment to support faculty, students, and researchers in high-quality research.

Pilot Plant

Our pilot plant has equipment for food processing studies, food bioactives isolation/concentration, thermal processing, spray drying, freeze drying, emulsion system, etc.

Facilities are available to internal and external researchers on a fee-for-service basis. Please contact the pilot plant manager at (413) 545-1013 for more information.

University Core Facilities

The UMass Amherst campus maintains more than 30 core equipment facilities for researchers. Many of these facilities are housed in the new Life Sciences Laboratory (LSL2) building.
