Welcome to the UMass Videographic Inquiry Laboratory!

In recent years, UMass has become one of the major hubs of this new field worldwide. Just to mention a few highlights, UMass hosted a very successful conference in videographic criticism that attracted the best practitioners from around the globe in 2021. Every year, the Film Studies Program offers workshops and classes taught by the most renowned international video essayists through the Filmmakers of the 21st century series. We regularly host talks and presentations by international and US based videoessayists. 
Moreover, several video essays produced by UMass faculty, graduate and undergraduate students have been included in the list of Best Video Essays by the prestigious film magazine Sight and Sound of the British Film Institute since 2021.
