On Tuesday, November 6th, there will be a screening of the 2016 film "The Interrogation" followed by a discussion with director Erez Pery from 10AM to 1PM. This event is free and open to the public! It will take place in the Film Studies Screening Room S404 on the fourth floor of the Integrated Learning Center.
The film is based on the autobiography of Auschwitz camp commander Rudolf Höss. Höss was the longest-serving commandant of Auschwitz, who tested a myriad of methods with the goal of exterminating the European-Jewish population, as ordered by Adolf Hitler. Höss introduced Zyklon B as a particularly brutal form of mass murder, said to be the most effective genocidal weapon used by the Nazis. Around one million people were killed during the Holocaust from Zyklon B.
"The Interrogation" follows Höss as he awaits trial for his crimes in a Polish prison. A Polish investigation judge, Albert, is given the task of eliciting a confession from Höss. What unravels throughout the film is a series of interrogative efforts that slowly unveils the administrative malevolence that took place within the Nazi concentration camps.
Israeli director Erez Pery will be present after the screening to discuss the film more in depth.
This event is being co-sponsored by the Institute for Holocaust, Genocide, and Memory Studies, the Amesbury Endowment for Polish Language, Literature, and Culture, and the UMass Film Studies Department and German and Scandinavian Studies Department.
