Official Website | Filmmaker
Fleeing in the wake of their mother’s murder, burned for witchcraft, Margit (the singularly multitalented Björk in her first film performance) and her elder sister Katla seek refuge with a widower and his son. Filmed in silvery black and white entirely on location in Iceland’s volcanic, otherworldly landscapes, Keene’s visionary interpretation of the Brothers Grimm fairytale portrays the lives and struggles of extraordinary women in a too often indifferent or unsympathetic world.
