Student Grant Writing Program Application

Complete the online application below. Please make sure to submit all information.

  • Please respond to each of these short-answer questions in a single document file and upload it with the application below. Please make sure to include the question number in your response. (This should be no more than four to five pages double-spaced, with standard 1" margins and 12-point Times font.)

A. From the graduate student candidate:


      a. Research Description document (submit via form below):

  1. Proposed title which communicates the focus of your research
  2. A statement of the research problem your research will address
  3. A statement of the translational and/or theoretical significance of your research problem
  4. A brief statement of your methodology (enough so reviewers knows the general approach your research takes)
  5. A brief statement explaining why your proposed research matters for families

       NOTE: We recognize that, as new graduate students, your research ideas are still in development. We encourage students to develop their ideas in close consultation with their mentor.

       b. Current CV (be sure to include outreach activities). Upload your document using the form below.
       c. Undergraduate transcripts (unofficial copies are sufficient).  Transcripts may be submitted through the form below, via email       to crf@psych.umass.edu, or sent via campus/postal mail to: 
           Center for Research on Families, attn: Gisele Litalien, 135 Hicks Way, 622 Tobin Hall, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA  01003.

B. From the Faculty Mentor

a. A confidential letter of support for the candidate describing your commitment to the student, the significance of their research topic, and your commitment to support the scholars program, including your willingness to meet the mentor responsibilities described in the Call for Proposals. This letter can be emailed to the attention of Dr. Maureen Perry-Jenkins, CRF Director, at glitalien@umass.edu.

Deadline

Complete applications, including the faculty member's letter of support, are due by 5 pm on Friday, February 23, 2018. All applications will be carefully reviewed and recipients will be selected by a committee convened by CRF. The awards will be announced in mid-March 2018.
