Sungha Kang is a PhD candidate in the clinical psychology program, working with Dr. Lisa Harvey. Her research interests involve ethnic and racial disparities in ADHD assessment and diagnosis. In particular, her master's thesis aimed to examine the mechanisms associated with perceptions of ADHD-related behaviors in African-American children, such as cultural expectations of child behavior, stigma related to mental disorders, experiences with discrimination, and racial attitudes. She is also interested in the role of social systems (e.g., parents and schools) in ethnic minority children's developmental and academic outcomes. The travel award helped to fund travel expenses for the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies in Washington D.C from November 15-18, 2018. Her research project is titled, “Ethnic Differences in the Relation Between Parenting and Child Functioning.”
