Sarah Winokur

Sarah Winokur, a PhD candidate in the Neuroscience and Behavior Program, is the recipient of the $10,000 CRF Dissertation Fellowship. Under the mentorship of Dr. Mariana Pereira, Sarah's dissertation research focuses on discovering molecular and neuro-chemical mechanisms associated with depressive-like cognitive and motivational dysfunctions that predict parenting disturbances in new mother rats. Over the next year, Sarah’s work will assess how identified candidate genes in the brain functionally contribute to a depressive maternal behavior phenotype. Understanding this complex neurobiology will facilitate the development of more targeted treatments for core symptoms of postpartum depression, which will ultimately benefit the health and well-being of mothers and their offspring.
